‘Save Rangpur’ app launched

A new app titled ‘Save Rangpur’ has been launched to help keep Rangpur safe, provide important information to the authorities, and enable residents to report crimes, accidents and other public safety issues.

The app was officially launched at the auditorium of the Rangpur Shilpakala Academy on Thursday.
Al Mamun, founder and chief coordinator of ‘Save Rangpur’ said everyone has a responsibility to keep themselves and Rangpur safe.

The ‘Save Rangpur’ app has therefore been introduced to help residents report accurate information about crimes, accidents and public safety issues in their areas to the relevant authorities.

Through the app, users can submit verified information about incidents in their neighbourhoods to the appropriate government departments for action. Their identities will not be disclosed when necessary, the organisers said.

Users have been urged to provide accurate information, clearly mention the incident and correctly identify the location. The information will then be forwarded through the app to the relevant department, which will verify it and take necessary action.

The launch programme was presided over by Al Mamun, founder and chief coordinator of ‘Save Rangpur’. Among those present were Rangpur Additional Superintendent of Police Farukuzzaman, Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Jobayer Rahman, Department of Narcotics Control Inspector SM Elkof Uddin, Rangpur Press Club Union (RPUJ) President Salekuzzaman Salek, District Motor Owners’ Association General Secretary Wasimul Bari Raj, Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry Director Partha Bose and others.

However, in cases requiring immediate emergency assistance, users have been advised to contact the national emergency helpline 999 instead of waiting for action through a web report.

Members of civil society and journalists from Rangpur attended the launch programme.
