Bangladeshi expat injured in Saudi missile strike dies

A Bangladeshi expatriate has died while receiving treatment in Saudi Arabia after being injured in a missile attack.

The deceased, Abdullah Al Mamun, 35, a native of Mymensingh, was the son of the late Sawdagar from Bharbhara village in Rasulpur Union under Gafargaon upazila.

Mamun sustained critical injuries on March 8 when a missile hit a workers’ camp of Al Towaik Baladiya Company in Al Kharij city, shortly before iftar. He was admitted to Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Hospital in Al Kharij, where he died on the night of March 17 while on life support. His body is currently kept at the hospital morgue.

The same incident also claimed the lives of Bachchu Mia from Kishoreganj and Mosharraf Hossain from Tangail, while several other Bangladeshi workers were wounded. Mamun had suffered severe burns covering nearly 72 percent of his body.

According to family sources, Mamun had been in a critical condition since the explosion and was receiving intensive care. His cousin, Shawon Morol, confirmed the news of his death.

The news of his demise has cast a shadow of mourning over his family and the local community. Relatives and residents have called on the authorities to expedite the process of repatriating his body so that his final rites can be performed in his homeland.
