School teacher’s dwelling house gutted
Bagerhat Correspondent :
A tin-shed dwelling house belonging to a primary school teacher named Abu Saleh of Uttar-Tafalbari village within Southkhali Union under Sharankhola Upazila in Bagerhat district was completely gutted along with all its belongings when it caught fire on Sunday at around 11:30 am, according to a report received.
The fire loss is estimated at about Tk 6 to 7 lakh on primary assessment. It is stated that on the day, in the morning, the fire originated from the adjacent kitchen, spread to the dwelling house, and went out of control within moments. On seeing the flames, neighboring people rushed to the spot and tried to extinguish the fire, but for want of water in the adjacent ponds and canals, their efforts proved futile.
On receiving information, a Fire Service and Civil Defence Party unit left Sharankhola Upazila headquarters for the scene, but due to the extremely bad road condition, it reached the spot after the dwelling house had already been gutted.
Aftab-e-Alam, the Officer-in-Charge of Sharankhola Fire Service and Civil Defence Party, said they started with a fire service unit from the Upazila headquarters for the scene just after receiving the information, but due to the bad road communication system and shortage of water, they failed to extinguish the fire.
He confirmed the fire originated from the adjacent kitchen. As a result of the incident, the affected family members are now passing their days under the open sky.
