Prof Nayla seeks reserved women’s seat

Professor Nayla Islam, a member of the central committee of the Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal and President of the Nabinagar Upazila Mohila Dal in Brahmanbaria, is among the leaders being discussed for nomination to a reserved women’s seat in the Jatiya Sangsad from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
Efforts have already begun within the party to secure nominations for the reserved seats, with leaders of the Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal appearing to be ahead in the race.
Nayla Islam is also a professor in the Department of Political Science at Demra University College in the capital.Party sources said that Professor Nayla Islam enjoys strong reputation and acceptance for leading the election campaign in support of Md Abdul Mannan, the parliamentary candidate for Brahmanbaria-5 in the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
Md Abdul Mannan, the winning candidate of the constituency, said: “We hope that the party’s chairman and Prime Minister, Tarique Rahman, will duly recognise Nayla Islam.”
Speaking about her background, Nayla Islam said that she obtained her Honours degree in Political Science from University of Dhaka in 1990 and completed her Master’s degree in 1991 from the same department.
She has been involved in BNP politics since her student days. Before becoming President of Nabinagar Upazila Mohila Dal, she served as President of the Demra Thana Mohila Dal. She also has nearly 30 years of teaching experience at the college level.
