Rape on moving train, 1 held

A woman has filed a rape case alleging that she was sexually assaulted inside the canteen of the Kurigram Express while travelling from Dhaka to Kurigram on Monday morning.

According to the case complaint and police, the incident allegedly occurred while the train was passing through the Natore area. A 22-year-old canteen worker, Abu Bakkar Siddique, was arrested in connection with the case and sent to court on Tuesday.

Police said the woman, 44, reported the incident after reaching Santahar Railway Police Station and filed the case herself under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

According to the complaint, several people were allegedly involved in the assault. The woman also alleged that two of the accused were police personnel.

Other passengers reportedly intervened after hearing her calls for help and detained Abu Bakkar before handing him over to police.

Santahar Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Dulal Uddin said the allegations against all the accused were being investigated.

Police said further legal action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation.

The incident has raised concerns about passenger safety and security on trains, particularly regarding the monitoring of railway canteens and other less-visible areas of moving trains.
