Housewife allegedly strangled by husband

A housewife named Khaleda Bibi was allegedly killed by her husband by strangulation following a family dispute in Kalai Upazila of Joypurhat district. The incident occurred on Saturday night in Elta Uttar Para village of Zindarpur Union.

The deceased, Khaleda Bibi, was the daughter of Abdul Khalek of Elta Uttar Para and the wife of Abdul Babi.
According to local sources, there had been a long-standing conflict between Abdul Babi and his wife. He frequently demanded money from her under various pretexts, and if she failed to provide it, he would take and sell her gold jewelry and mobile phones.

On Saturday afternoon, he again took his wife’s gold chain and mobile phone. When Khaleda informed the villagers, a family meeting was held, and the items were returned to her. After the villagers left, the couple entered their home together.

Around 3:00 a.m., when a household worker called Abdul Babi for Sahri (pre-dawn meal), he opened the door and left the house quickly. Later, the worker found Khaleda Bibi in the room with a scarf wrapped around her neck.

Villagers informed the police, and officers from Kalai Police Station recovered the body. It was sent to the 250-bed Joypurhat General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
