Jamaat, NCP MPs take two oaths

Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin administered oaths to newly elected MPs from the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban's swearing-in chamber in Dhaka on Tuesday at 12:22 pm.

Newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and National Citizen Party (NCP) in the 13th national election took their oath of office at Jatiya Sangsad on Tuesday.

Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin administered the oath at 12:22 pm at the Oath Taking Room of Sangsad Bhaban.

The ceremony was conducted by Secretary of the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat, Kaniz Moula, after which the MPs signed the official oath register.

The Jamaat lawmakers first took oath as Members of Parliament and subsequently as members of the Constitutional Reform Council.

Besides, six newly elected MPs from the National Citizen Party (NCP) were sworn in as members of parliament on Tuesday.

The oath-taking ceremony was held at the National Parliament and administered by AMM Nasir Uddin, the chief election commissioner (CEC).

For the first time in the country’s history, a chief election commissioner administered the oath to newly elected MPs.

In the third phase, NCP leaders took their oaths. Nahid Islam, Akhtar Hossain, Hasnat Abdullah, Abdul Hannan Masud, Abdullah Al Amin, and Atikur Rahman Mojahid were sworn in as MPs.

Earlier in the day, MPs-elect from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) were sworn in at the same venue at 10:43 am.

The oath was administered by CEC A M M Nasir Uddin and conducted by Secretary Kaniz Moula.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami won 68 seats, becoming the main opposition party. Among its alliance partners, National Citizen Party (NCP) secured six seats, Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis won two seats, and Khelafat Majlish obtained one seat.
