Tk 14,411cr rolled out for 8 infra, energy schemes
The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) yesterday approved eight major development projects with an estimated total cost of Tk 14,411.21 crore.
Out of the total outlay, Tk 10,494.21 crore will be met from the government’s own funds, while the remaining Tk 3,550.44 crore will be mobilized as project loans.
The approvals were granted at an ECNEC meeting held at the Cabinet Division in the Bangladesh Secretariat, with Prime Minister and ECNEC Chairperson Tarique Rahman in the chair.
Of the eight approved schemes, three are entirely new projects while five are revised versions of ongoing initiatives.
The meeting was attended by senior cabinet members, including Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, LGRD Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Commerce and Industries Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Power and Energy Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud, and State Minister for Planning Md. Jonayed Abdur Rahim Saki, among other high-ranking officials.
Among the approved projects, the Local Government Division secured three major schemes: the General Social Infrastructure Development-2 (GSIDP-2) (1st Revised) project, the Greater Dinajpur Integrated Development Project, and the Rural Road Maintenance and Employment Project.
Under the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry, the ECNEC cleared the second revision of the high-profile Dhaka-Ashulia Elevated Expressway Construction Project. For the energy sector, approval was granted for the Power Distribution System Development Project in Sylhet Division (3rd Revised), alongside a key gas exploration project involving the drilling of one appraisal-cum-development well (Begumganj-5) and two exploration wells (Begumganj-6 and Sunetra-2).
Other approved schemes include the Disaster Shelter Construction, Renovation and Development Project (3rd Revised) under the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, and the Kidney Dialysis Centre Expansion Project (2nd Revised) under the Health Ministry.
The meeting was also informed that State Minister for Planning Md. Jonayed Abdur Rahim Saki had approved 11 smaller development projects each costing below Tk 50 crore under delegated authority.
These smaller schemes cover regional offices for the National University, local transport infrastructure, power transmission facilities, airport mobile network installation, and vocational education institutes.
