3 more local garment factories receive LEED certification

Three more local garment factories have received LEED certification from the US Green Building Council (USGBC), with one achieving the highest score globally.
With the addition of these three factories, the total number of LEED-certified garment factories in Bangladesh has risen to 273, including 115 Platinum and 139 Gold certified units.
HAMS Garments Ltd– located in Sreepur of Gazipur has achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification with a score of 108 points out of 110– the highest score recorded globally so far under this category.
The remaining two units are Ecotrims Bangladesh Ltd – Unit 1 in Telihati union of Gazipur and NAFA Apparels Ltd – Unit 1 in Kaliakoir of Gazipur and achieved gold certification with 70 and 65 points respectively. Out of the total 273 LEED-certified garment factories in Bangladesh, some 115 are Platinum rated and 139 are Gold certified, said Mohiuddin Rubel, a former director of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
Bangladesh also continues to dominate global rankings, now hosting 69 of the world’s top 100 highest-rated LEED-certified factories, reaffirming the country’s leadership in sustainable and environmentally compliant apparel manufacturing, he said.
