PHP Family, MHTC sign MoU to expand Malaysia healthcare
A new avenue has opened for Bangladeshi patients seeking advanced and specialised medical treatment in Malaysia following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between PHP Family and the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC).
The agreement was signed at the “Discover Malaysia Healthcare” event in Chattogram on Monday night, organised as part of Malaysia Healthcare Week 2026 to promote cooperation between Bangladesh and Malaysia in healthcare, medical tourism and specialised treatment.
Mohammed Mohsin, Vice Chairman of PHP Family, and Dato’ Suriagandi Supiah, Chief Executive Officer of MHTC, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations at a ceremony held at Radisson Blu Hotel, Chattogram.
The organisers said the agreement would help Bangladeshi patients obtain reliable information about Malaysia’s specialised healthcare services while establishing direct communication and support channels with hospitals and healthcare providers there.
Sufi Muhammad Mizanur Rahman, Chairman of PHP Family and recipient of the Ekushey Padak, attended the event as chief guest.
Amir Humayun Mahmud Chowdhury, Honorary Consul of Thailand; MA Bakkar, President of the Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce; and PHP Family Directors Anwarul Haque, Zahirul Islam Rinku and Noved Mizan Iqbal were among those present.
Speaking at the event, Sufi Mizanur Rahman said Bangladesh and Malaysia share a long-standing relationship that extends across several sectors.
He said there was considerable scope to deepen bilateral cooperation in healthcare, particularly by creating opportunities for Bangladeshi patients to access Malaysia’s advanced medical facilities and technologies.
Praising Malaysia’s healthcare services, he said initiatives such as the MoU could mark an important step in expanding people-to-people cooperation between the two countries.
Recalling his association with former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, Sufi Mizanur Rahman said he had the opportunity to bring Mahathir to Bangladesh, where his address to the people, particularly young people and students, remained memorable.
He also recalled attending a ceremony in Malaysia marking Mahathir’s 100th birthday, where he spoke about his association with the former Malaysian premier.
Participants also praised the initiatives of Mohammad Akhtar Parvez, Malaysia’s Honorary Consul and one of the key organisers of the programme, for strengthening Bangladesh-Malaysia relations.
They said his efforts have focused on expanding cooperation in business, healthcare, medical tourism and connectivity between the two countries.
Hijami Aizat, Head of Developmental Markets, Marketing and Communications at MHTC, highlighted Malaysia’s healthcare infrastructure and specialised medical services.
He was accompanied by MHTC Manager Nor Suzilawati Idris, Senior Executive Rosilah Che Omar and Executive Puteri Nur Ayeshah Mohammad Zamri.
A representative of IHH Healthcare Malaysia said the group operates 18 hospitals across Malaysia, providing specialised treatment for complex diseases and conditions, including cancer, urology and orthopaedic disorders.
