Actomania brings new production, ‘When We Dead Awaken’

Entertainment Desk :

The young theatre troupe Actomania is bringing its third production to Dhaka stage: the timeless work ‘When We Dead Awaken’ by renowned Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen. The premiere will be staged on January 27, followed by the second performance on January 28, at the Main Hall of the National Theatre of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, said a press release.
The inaugural performance will be graced by the presence of HåkonAraldGulbrandsen, Ambassador of the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Bangladesh, as the chief guest.
The play has been translated by Shahidul Mamun and is directed by Nowrin Sazzad. Since its debut in 2023, the group has consistently aimed to offer audiences something new. Their previous productions, ‘Hamlet machine’ and ‘The Man Outside’, were warmly received by audiences, and the group believes this production will continue that legacy.
‘When We Dead Awaken’ speaks of freedom and relationships. Some of its characters seek liberation through creation, while others search for freedom within the warmth of human connection. A timeless and eternal conflict between relationships and freedom unfolds here-one that is both worldly and divine. For these reasons, Actomania chose this play as its third production. The play explores art and the inner burning of an artiste, conveying the idea that the pain of failing to create the desired work of art is akin to death itself.
The subject matter of ‘When We Dead Awaken’ therefore compelled the team to present this play to today’s audience, said director Nowrin Sazzad.
The cast includes Kamruzzaman Tapu, MHS Laban, Nowrin Sazzad, Marcia Shawon, Sagar Barua Shan, Fakir Biplob, Marjuk Al Hasan, Prothoma Rahman, Sanvi Mir Chowdhury, Rajon Arif, Dibakar Mondol Jitu, Shahriar Yusuf, and Abhijit Saha Rudra.
