Police ordered to submit probe report on Jan 25
Staff Reporter :
A Dhaka court has fixed January 25 for submission of the investigation report in the murder case of Sharif Osman bin Hadi, spokesperson of the political and cultural platform Inqilab Mancha.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam passed the order on Tuesday as the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) failed to submit the probe report within the stipulated time.
The information was confirmed by Roknuzzaman, a sub-inspector of the prosecution division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Earlier, on January 15, the court directed the CID to conduct further investigation into the murder following a naraji (no-confidence) petition filed by the complainant, expressing dissatisfaction with the charge sheet submitted by police. The court had set Tuesday as the deadline for submitting the further investigation report.
The initial charge sheet was submitted on January 6 by Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Faisal Ahmed against 17 accused, including alleged shooter Faisal Karim Masud and his parents, Humayun Kabir and Hashi Begum. So far, 11 of the accused have been arrested and are currently in jail.
The fugitives include Faisal Karim Masud, his associate Alamgir Hossain, alleged mastermind and former ward councillor Taijul Islam Chowdhury Bappi, Filips Scalp, Mukti Akter and Jesmin Akter.
Those arrested also include Faisal Karim Masud’s wife Shaheda Parvin Samia, brother-in-law Wahid Ahmed Shipu, alleged girlfriend Maria Akter Lima, and others—Md Kabir, Nuruzzaman Nomani alias Ujjal, Civion Dew, Sanjay Chisim, Aminul Islam Raju and Abdul Hannan Foysal.
According to the case statement, Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Hossain opened fire on Hadi while he was travelling in a battery-run rickshaw in the Box Culvert Road area under Paltan Model Police Station on December 12. The assailants fled the scene on a motorcycle, leaving Hadi critically injured.
Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber filed the case with Paltan Model Police Station on December 14. Initially filed as an attempted murder case, it was later converted into a murder case after Hadi died on December 18. On December 20, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Siddiq Azad ordered the inclusion of Section 302 (murder) of the Penal Code.
Hadi was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Evercare Hospital. As his condition worsened, he was flown to Singapore on December 15 for advanced treatment, where he died after a week of treatment.
Sharif Osman bin Hadi had been serving as the spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha, a platform formed in the post-uprising period.
