Today, her name is ‘Koel’ due to director’s mistake

The daughter of Tollywood actor Ranjit Mallick, who has been widely known to audience as ‘Koel Mallick’ for more than two decades, recently revealed in an interview that Koel is not her real name.

Koel revealed that her real name is ‘Rukmini Mallick’. When she made her debut in 2003 with film ‘Naater Guru’, director Harnath Chakraborty did not know that Koel was her nickname.

Koel said, “Director Harkaku thought that Koel was my real name. So, without asking me, he used this name in the credit line of the film. Since then, I have been known in the industry as ‘Koel’.”
