Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially announced a 15-member squad for the ensuing ICC Under-19 World Cup (WC) to be held jointly in Zimbabwe and Namibia from January 15.
The team, led by Azizul Hakim Tamim, will depart Dhaka today to begin their World Cup campaign. Zawad Abrar has been named vice-captain of the side.
Bangladesh have won the Under-19 World Cup once, lifting the title at the 2020 edition. In the most recent tournament, the young Tigers were knocked out after losing to Pakistan in a virtual quarter-final.
Ahead of the tournament proper, they are scheduled to play two practice matches against Pakistan and Scotland.
Bangladesh youngsters are drawn in a tough Group A alongside India, New Zealand and the USA.
They will kick off the mission by taking on India on January 17 in Bulawayo, before facing off New Zealand on January 20 in Bulawayo and the USA on January 23 in Harare.
Top three teams from each of the four groups will move to the Super Six stage and will be split into two groups.
Two teams from each group with move to the knockout phase, featuring two semifinals and a final, scheduled to be held on February 6 in Harare.
Bangladesh finished eighth in the 2024 edition in the Caribbean. The young Tigers lifted the title of the global event only once in 2020 in South Africa by beating India in a thrilling contest.
