Tides of grief sweep DU over Khaleda’s demise

Dhaka University is enveloped in grief following the death of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, with students, faculty, and staff expressing shock at the loss of a leader remembered as an uncompromising symbol of democratic struggle and national sovereignty. Across the campus, prayer gatherings, memorial events and tributes by student organizations reflect the deep respect and admiration for her lifelong dedication to Bangladesh’s democracy and sovereignty.
Students across the university have taken to social media, posting tributes in her memory and acknowledging her lifelong dedication to democracy and resistance against authoritarianism. Various student clubs and organizations have also issued condolence messages, and the university administration has announced a series of initiatives to honor her legacy.
Special prayers (Doa Mahfil) were offered at Dhaka University Central Mosque after Zuhr prayers to seek forgiveness for the departed leader. Similar prayers were organized at all hall mosques, with students praying for Khaleda Zia’s soul and asking Allah to grant her the highest place in Jannatul Firdous.
