Mission and vision needed for any organization: UGC new Chair

There should be mission, vision and work-plan to successfully run any organization. Assistance and cooperation of all concerned could help achieve this goal, observed newly appointed UGC Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan.
The new UGC Chief made the observation at his installation ceremony at UGC auditorium on Sunday. UGC Officers’ Association and UGC Karmachari Union jointly organized the installation ceremony for joining of Prof Abdul Mannan as UGC Chairman. UGC Members- Prof Dr Mohammad Mohabbat Khan, Prof Dr Abul Hashem and Prof Dr Md. Akhtar Hossain spoke on the occasion. Md. Omar Faruque, President (Acting), UGC Officers’ Association presided over the function.
Referring to higher education, UGC Chief observed that the objectives and goals of universities are creation of new knowledge, storage of knowledge and dissemination of knowledge. He termed the 3 million students’ enrolment at tertiary level is a big achievement for Bangladesh. In this regard, he observed that now the main challenge of UGC is to improve and maintain the quality of higher education of both the public and private universities. He asserted that both the public and private universities are immensely contributing to the country’s tertiary level education. Prof Mannan stressed the need for allocating adequate resource / fund among the universities.
Speakers hoped that the new chairman would bring the UGC to the new height through his knowledge, skills, expertise and wisdom. They also expressed their optimism that he will take initiatives to face the challenges of UGC.
Vice-Chancellors, Pro Vice-Chancellors and Senior Professors of public and private universities and officials of UGC, HEQEP and BdREN were present on the occasion.
Later on, the newly appointed UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan paid tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman placing floral wreaths at his portrait at No. 32 of Dhanmondi.
