Tigers score 220/8 on Day 1 against Lanka in 2nd Test

Bangladesh scored 220 for the loss of eight wickets on Day 1 against Sri Lanka in the second Test at Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo, the capital city of Sri Lanka on Wednesday.
The Tigers won in the coin session and decided to bat first in a rain interrupted first day play of the second Test.
Bangladesh had a sorrow start as opener Anamul Haque Bijoy (0) was bowled out by Asitha Fernando when Bangladesh’s score was just five runs.
After Bijoy’s departure, opener Shadman Islam and Mominul Haque added together 38 runs in the second wicket stand before Mominul Haque (21) was caught at the cover by substitute Pavan Rathnayake off Dhananjaya de Silva when the tourists’ total was 43 for the loss of two wickets.
After Mominul’s dismissal, Shadman Islam and Najmul Hossain Shanto scoring together 31 runs for the third wicket partnership before Shanto (8) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis off Vishwa Fernando when the Bangladesh’s score was 74 for the loss of three wickets.
After Shanto’s departure, Shadman Islam could not stay at the crease for a long period as he was caught at the slip by Dhananjaya de Silva off Tharindu Rathnayake when the visitors’ total was 76 for the loss of four wickets.
Shadman hit a polished 46. His 93-ball innings was laced with seven fours. Shadman was the highest run-getter on the opening day of the second Test.
After Shadman’s dismissal, Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das contributed together 67 runs in the fifth wicket stand before Litton was caught behind by Kusal Mendis off Sonal Dinusha when the Tigers’ score was 143 for the loss of five wickets.
Litton made 34 from 56 deliveries featuring two fours and a sixer.
After Litton’s dismissal, Mushfiqur Rahim was caught at the deep square leg by Vishwa Fernando off Sonal Dinusha when the touring side’s total was 160 for the loss of six wickets. Mushfiqur Rahim scored 35 from 75 balls with five fours.
Then, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Nayeem Hasan put on together 37 runs for the seventh wicket partnership before Miraz was caught at the slip by Kamindu Mendis off Vishwa Fernando when Bangladesh’s score was 197 for the loss of seven wickets.
Miraz made 31 from 42 deliveries including three fours.
Nayeem Hasan (25) was bowled out by Asitha Fernando when the visitors’ total was 214 for the loss of eight wickets.
Taijul Islam and Ebadot Hossain remained unbeaten with nine and five runs respectively.
Sonali Dinusha, Vishwa Fernando, Asitha Fernando bagged two wickets each at the cost of 22, 35 and 43 runs respectively.
Dhananjaya de Silva, Tharindu Rathnayake picked up one wicket each for 15 and 63 runs respectively.
