Government in a Web of Conspiracy: Firm Stance Needed to Thwart the Plot
WHEN the shadow of prolonged instability falls upon politics, the structural security of the state faces grave risk.
The multifaceted crisis and administrative pressures confronting the current government, barely seven months into its tenure, cannot be taken lightly.
According to a newspaper report published on Monday, Bangladesh is facing a deep conspiracy what observers describe as to weaken its independence and democracy.
It indicates that, despite the collapse of the fascist regime, a deeply ominous sign is emerging in the national arena, driven by attempts to rehabilitate the defeated forces, a deteriorating law-and-order situation, and the hard line political stances adopted by opposition parties.
It has been observed in the past that undemocratic and terrorist forces rear their heads by exploiting political turmoil and laxity within the government.
Needless to say, if the current situation is not steered in the right direction, the historic achievements of the 2024 July mass uprising and the aspirations of the people will be at risk of being undermined.
We believe that the government should immediately take certain strategic and stern measures to resolve the ongoing crisis.
A lack of intelligence and inaction at certain levels of the administration are evident behind the successive acts of sabotage and ‘hit-and-run’ processions occurring in the capital and other key locations.
Consequently, visible reforms have become essential to restore administrative stability and police professionalism.
Furthermore, it is necessary to prevent internal divisions within government departments and law enforcement agencies while ensuring exemplary accountability for those responsible.
It is also imperative to strengthen diplomatic understandings with neighboring countries and major powers to thwart the attempts by the fugitive leadership to incite instability and engage in provocative activities on the international stage.
This is because, without delivering a stern diplomatic message, it will be difficult to prevent acts of sabotage within the country that are instigated by external forces. However, the most crucial step is to forge an internal political consensus.
If national unity fractures due to opportunistic factions within the government, it is the anarchic elements that will reap the benefits.
Major political parties and stakeholders must set aside power-centric animosity and adopt a responsible stance in the interest of the state’s overall security.
At the same time, the government must focus primarily on alleviating the economic hardships of the general public and ensuring their security.
It is expected that the government and political parties will, at this juncture, rise above personal and partisan interests to take effective measures towards rebuilding a stable, sovereign, and people-friendly democratic system.
