Somu Chowdhury returns home

Noted film and TV actor Somu Chowdhury made headlines on Thursday after a photo of him resting under a tree near Mukhi Shah Miskin Shrine in Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh, wearing only a gamcha (traditional cotton towel or cloth), went viral on social media. Many initially speculated it might be a scene from a film shoot, while others thought he was mentally unstable.
However, the actor has assured everyone that he is completely healthy and plans to return home on Friday after attending Urs Sharif (a religious activity associated with shrines).
A local representative said Somu was first noticed resting under a gab tree near the shrine around 12:00pm on Thursday.
The General Secretary of the Actors’ Equity Bangladesh, Rashed Mamun Apu, said they contacted the nearest police after learning about Somu and are currently looking after him. Providing an update, Rashed Mamun Apu said, “People from our organisation left on Thursday to be with him. They brought him back to Dhaka on Friday.”
SI Shah Alam, duty officer of Pagla Police Station, told local media, “After we were alerted to look into the condition of actor Somu Chowdhury, we confirmed the incident and recovered him from the scene. We offered to hand him over to his family immediately, but Somu insisted on staying until the Urs Sharif was over and returning home afterwards.”
After returning to the shrine from the police station, Somu Chowdhury told journalists, “I spent all Thursday night in meditation and prayers. I came here for just a day on account of attending Urs Sharif, so I hadn’t brought anything with me. The locals gave me a gamchha. I washed up in the morning, put it on, and lay down. Someone took a photo and put it on Facebook. Everyone got worried after seeing it, but I’m completely healthy.”
Somu Chowdhury is currently staying at the home of service worker Daisy Bachchu near the Miskin Shrine. Local police said the actor’s relatives also departed from Jashore and assisted him home.
