1.4m tonnes fuel oil to be purchased from seven countries

Bangladesh will import 1.45 million tonnes of refined fuel oil from eight companies in seven countries between January and June this year.
The oil will be imported from India, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates and Oman, as per local media reports.
The cost of importing fuel oil from the countries will be about USD 96 million. The amount of Bangladeshi currency is Tk 114.79 billion.
The proposal was approved at a meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Government Purchase held at the Secretariat with Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed in the chair. This information was found in the meeting sources.
According to sources, the refined fuel oil will be imported from the government to the government level i.e. on G2G basis.
Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) was given policy approval at a meeting of the Advisory Committee on Economic Affairs on October 24 last year.
Two of the eight companies in seven countries are from China. The fuel oil will be imported from six companies in the remaining six countries.
The two Chinese companies are PetroChina and UNIPEC. The other institutions are IOCL of India, BSP of Indonesia, PTLCL of Malaysia, PTTT of Thailand, OQT of Oman and UNOC of the United Arab Emirates.
According to the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, gas oil is 880,000 tonnes, Jet A1 190,000 tonnes, Mogas 75,000 tonnes, furnace oil 250,000 tonnes and marine fuel 30,000 tonnes.
