7 murdered on SHIP: Committee formed to probe

A committee has been formed by the Ministry of Industries to investigate the brutal murders and injuries of crew members aboard the fertilizer-laden MV Al Bakhera near Harina Ferry Ghat in Chandpur.
According to a ministry press release on Monday, the four-member investigation committee includes an additional secretary of the ministry as its convener and a joint secretary as its member secretary.
The committee has been directed to submit a report within the next five working days, outlining the reasons behind the incident, the extent of the damage, responsibilities of those involved, and recommendations to prevent similar maritime incidents in the future.
Apart from expressing deep sorrow over the brutal killings and injuries caused by the attack of a group of robbers on the vessel, the ministry urged swift action to apprehend those responsible for this heinous act.
Meanwhile, the bodies of seven crew, murdered on the vessel, have been handed over to their families.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mohsin Uddin provided each family with a cheque for Tk 20,000, while the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Chandpur River Police, Syed Moshfiqur Rahman, gave each family Tk 10,000 in cash.
Earlier, the bodies were recovered on Monday by the Coast Guard and River Police from the MV Al Bakhera.
