‘Present real history to future generations’

State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury has called for presenting an accurate history of Bangladesh’s independence and democracy to the next generation, warning that the contributions and sacrifices behind them could otherwise be lost over time.

He made the remarks on Sunday while speaking as the chief guest at the unveiling and publication festival of two books, Shaheed Zia Golpo Shono and Chhotoder Priyo Khaleda Zia, written by writer-journalist Sabrina Shuvra at the Jatiya Press Club.

The event was organised by publication company Dashmik.

Yasser said children should be made aware of the people whose contributions and sacrifices helped establish Bangladesh as an independent country and restore democracy.

He said presenting the country’s real history to the younger generation is particularly important and that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is working towards that goal.

The ministry is also ready to provide all-out cooperation to initiatives aimed at presenting the country’s history accurately, he said.

Yasser stressed the need to publish English translations of such books for Bangladeshi children and adolescents living abroad so that they can learn about Bangladesh’s history and the contributions of its leaders.

“If Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman had not declared the independence that day saying ‘I revolt’, perhaps we would not have an independent country today,” he said.
