The Department of Agricultural has taken a scheduled to distributed seeds of Boro hybrid paddy among 40,000 marginal farmers in Kishoreganj. The farmers will be given 80,000kg of Boro rice seed incentives this year.
Currently, farmers are busy preparing Boro rice seedbeds in the haor areas . As the weather is favorable for sowing seeds, the farmers are busy from morning to evening. However, they are worried about early floods, not getting a fair price for rice, and increasing prices of agricultural machinery, fertilizers, pesticides and diesel. Due to this, the interest of farmers in rice cultivation has decreased day by day.
It is known that out of 13 upazilas of Kishoreganj, 5 are partially and 3 are completely inhabited by haors. Out of these, the maximum number of Boro rice is cultivated in three haor upazila of Mithamoin, Itna and Ashtagram. This time, the target of Boro rice cultivation has been set on 1 lakh 68 thousand 100 hectares of land in the district. The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) is providing all kinds of support to the farmers. This time, 5,600 kg of seeds have been given to 2,800 farmers in Hossainpur upazila of the district, 6,200 kg of seeds to 3,100 farmers in Sadar upazila, 6,200 kg of seeds to 3,100 farmers in Pakundia upazila, 6,200 kg of seeds to 3,100 farmers in Katiadi upazila, 6,200 kg of seeds to 3,100 farmers in Karimganj upazila, 6,000 kg of seeds to 3,000 farmers in Tarail upazila, 6,600 kg of seeds to 3,300 farmers in Itna upazila, 6,600 kg of seeds to 3,300 farmers in Mithamoin upazila, 6,600 kg of seeds to 3,300 farmers in Ashtagram upazila, 6,200 kg of seeds to 3,100 farmers in Nikli upazila, 6,400 kg of seeds to 3,200 farmers in Bajitpur upazila, 5,600 kg of seeds to 2,800 farmers in Kuliarchar upazila and 5,600 kg of seeds to 2,800 farmers in Bhairab upazila.
