Info complexes planned in all districts, upazilas
The government has taken an initiative to construct information complexes in all districts and upazilas across Bangladesh to create central hubs for internet-based and IT-driven information services, Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon said on Sunday.
He made the announcement while addressing the inauguration ceremony of the Divisional Information Complex on C&B Road in Barishal city as chief guest.
The planned information complexes are intended to go beyond conventional infrastructure and create a knowledge-based platform integrating information services, professional expertise and technology, the minister said.
“It will be a mistake to view this merely as massive buildings,” Zahir Uddin Swapon said.
He said the government’s objective in constructing the facilities was to create a “knowledge product” by combining information services with professional expertise and knowledge.
The newly inaugurated Barishal Divisional Information Complex was constructed at a cost of around Tk 17 crore.
Although the project was initially scheduled for completion in 2023, the facility was inaugurated after a three-year delay.
