RpMCH to be revamped in 30 days
Disaster Management and Relief Minister Professor Asadul Habib Dulu on Sunday announced plans to revamp Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RpMCH) within 30 days to improve healthcare services for nearly 40 million people in the northern region.
He made the announcement after inaugurating a six-storey isolation ward at the hospital, constructed at a cost of Tk 14.20 crore.
The minister said all existing shortcomings at the hospital would be addressed and healthcare services would be strengthened. Necessary steps would be taken to resolve the manpower shortage, provide modern diagnostic equipment, and improve the hospital’s infrastructure and quality of services, he said.
He said arrangements had already been made to recruit manpower through outsourcing to improve services for patients.
At the same time, special attention would be given to keeping the hospital clean and free from brokers, he said.
“A clear roadmap for revamping Rangpur Medical College Hospital will be presented to the public within the next 30 days,” Dulu said.
He said Rangpur Medical College Hospital was one of the main healthcare providers for nearly 40 million people in the northern region and needed to be strengthened to meet the growing demand for medical services.
The minister also spoke about the water crisis in the Teesta during the dry season.
“The Teesta faces a severe water shortage during the dry season.
If we do not receive water from upstream and the neighbouring country does not release water, we will have to find ways to conserve the available water,” he said.
Among others, reserved women’s MP Advocate Rebeka Sultana Fency, Rangpur Development Authority Chairman Shamsuzzaman Shamu and Rangpur Medical College Hospital Director Brigadier General Ashikur Rahman were present at the event, along with relevant officials.
