Imranur Rahman of Bangladesh reached the semi-finals of the 60-metre sprint of Asian Indoor Athletics Championship at Tehran, the capital city of Iran on Sunday. He became fourth in the heat clocking 6.62 seconds. Ali Anwar of Oman finished first taking 6.56 seconds.
Rakibul Hasan of Bangladesh failed to reach the semi-finals taking 6.87 seconds in the heat.
Earlier, Imranur Rahman bagged gold medal in the 60-metre sprint of Asian Indoor Athletics Championship clocking 6.59 seconds held in Kazakhstan last year.
Before taking part in the sprint in Tehran, Imranur Rahman hopes that he will retain his title. It may be mentioned that Imranur Rahman is an expatriate of England.
UNB adds: Mohammad Jahir Rayhan brought laurel for Bangladesh by clinching first ever silver medal in the Men’s 400-metre sprint of the Asian Indoor Athletics held in Tehran on Sunday night. He was the 2nd Bangladeshi athlete after the gold medalist Imranur Rahman, who win a medal in the Asian level meet.
Jahir Rayhan, won first-ever Asian silver medal for Bangladesh as he finished 2nd in the 400-metre sprint with a timing of 48.10 seconds.
Five athletes of the Bangladesh team are: Imranur Rahman, Rakibul Hasan (60-metre sprint), Zahir Rayhan (400-metre sprint), Mahfuzur Rahman (high jump) and Shirin Akhter (60-metre sprint).
