Comilla Victorians win a thriller

A superb century by Towhid Hridoy powered Comilla Victorians to earn a thrilling four-wicket victory over Durdanto Dhaka in the 26th match of the Ispahani Bangladesh Premier League Cricket at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital’s Mirpur on Friday. Towhid Hridoy remained unbeaten with 108 runs. He cracked seven sixes and eight fours in his 57-ball innings.

It is the first century in this year’s BPL edition. Hridoy was adjudged the Man of the Match.

Electing to bat first, Durdanto Dhaka piled up a mammoth total of 175 for the loss of four wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.

In reply, Comilla Victorians reached the winning target making 176 for the loss of six wickets when they had just one ball to spare.

Comilla Victorians bagged 10 points from seven matches, while Dhaka remained with two points from eight matches.

Durdanto Dhaka made a modest start as openers Chaturanga de Silva and Mohammad Naim put on together 23 runs before Chaturanga (14) was dismissed by Aliss Al Islam.

Mohammad Naim and one-down Saif Hassan salvaged their team from disaster adding together 119 runs in the second wicket stand before Saif Hassan was dismissed by Matthew Forde when Dhaka’s score was 142 for the loss of two wickets.

Saif notched up a splendid 57. His 42-ball knock was studded with three sixes and four fours.

After Saif’s departure, Naim could not stay at the crease for a long period as he was dismissed by Matthew Forde when Dhaka’s total was 143 for the loss of three wickets.

Naim hit a terrific 64. His 45-ball innings was laced with nine fours and a sixer.

Later, Alex Ross and SM Meherob added 32 runs for the unbroken fifth wicket partnership.

Ross remained unbeaten with 21 runs, while Meherob remained unbeaten with 11 runs.

Forde was his team’s most successful bowler with three wickets for 35 runs.

Brooke Guest scored 34 from 35 balls featuring four fours and a sixer.

Shoriful Islam was his team’s most successful bowler with two wickets at the cost of 32 runs.
