‘Abhibyakti’ formed to promote Bangladeshi literature and culture
A new literary and cultural organisation, ‘Abhibyakti’, has been formed with the aim of advancing Bangladeshi literature and culture while upholding the spirit of the Liberation War and the July Revolution.
The organisation’s new committee was formed through a voice vote at a recent general meeting held at the National Press Club, bringing together senior journalists, poets, artists, activists, writers and cultural personalities.
Senior journalist, activist and poet Nurul Islam Khokon was elected president (co-ordinator), while senior journalist, artist and poet Mohammad Abdul Wadud was elected general secretary.
Senior journalist, politician, activist and poet Rieta Rahman has been given the responsibility of chief adviser, while noted politician Advocate Syed Belayet Hossain Belal was elected adviser.
Education enthusiast Mrs Halen Akhtar and Mofizur Rahman Khan Babu, editor and publisher have been named patrons of the organisation.
Senior vice-president Bashirul Haque Sinha, an activist, and vice-presidents Major (retd) Zaman and senior journalist-poet Jamal Uddin Bari were elected to the committee.
The three joint general secretaries are Principal Shamsunnahar Lasker, senior journalist and poet Mushfiqur Rahman, and writer and poet Talukdar Lovely.
Poet Ismail Hossain Ismi has been elected organising secretary, while senior journalist and poet Anjuman Ara Shilpi will serve as treasurer.
The other editorial positions have also been filled. Musician and poet Shampi Zaman will serve as cultural secretary, while storyteller and poet Farhana Tania will be literature secretary.
Publisher and poet Aleya Begum Alo has been named publicity and publication secretary, musician and advocate Shimul Parvin legal affairs secretary, and journalist and poet Taskina Yeasmin Amy office secretary.
Nadira Akter Dina will serve as dance secretary, while child scientist Mehjabin Mousi has been appointed international affairs secretary.
The executive committee includes senior journalist Alam Masud; poet Momtaz Begum, mother of July martyr Shahriar Bin Matin; poet Dr Habibur Rahman Khan; artist and recitation performer Armin Chowdhury Kabita; poet Nasrin Nahar Akhi; musician Farzana Diba; and poets Shahidul Islam, Poet Iqbal, Shaheen Khan, Tariq, Azad, Shahriar, Hasib Khan, Habib and Ilora Suma.
The formation of the organisation brings together people from different creative and professional backgrounds under a common platform focused on literature and culture.
