Fakhrul shown held in 9 cases

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was shown arrested yesterday in nine cases filed against him in connection with political violence in Dhaka centering BNP rally of Nayapaltan on October 28, last year.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sultan Sohag Uddin passed the order after Mirza Fakhrul’s lawyer submitted nine separate petitions in connection with the incident.

The court fixed Wednesday for hearing on the bail petitions in the cases- six filed with Paltan and three filed with Ramna Model Police Station.

On December 31, Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury fixed Wednesday for hearing Fakhrul’s bail petitions in the nine cases.

On December 18, the High Court directed the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka to accept, hear and dispose of the bail petitions of Mirza Fakhrul in connection with the nine cases after a writ petition was filed challenging legality of CMM Court’s refusal to accept the petitions.

The cases were filed on the charges of killing a police constable and gathering on the street, vandalizing vehicles, rioting, snatching a police weapon, damaging properties, assaulting policemen and preventing them from discharging their duties.
