Ctg Elevated Expressway to open soon for traffic

The elevated expressway was inaugurated from Lalkhan Bazar to the airport on November 7 last. At a video conference from Ganabhaban, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the first elevated expressway in Chittagong called ‘Mayor Mohiuddin Chowdhury-CDA flyover’.However, the elevated expressway has not been opened for traffic as the construction is not completed. The project is expected to be completed in June 2021 at a cost of Tk 4,000 crore.
Meanwhile, the pressure of the tunnel -facing vehicles has increased as the Bangabandhu tunnel was launched. In this situation, the elevated expressway will be opened for traffic in March-April, the Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) said. The CDA delegation told CCC Mayor at a meeting last Thursday.
The meeting presented illustrated reports and animation videos on the design of the elevated expressway, the construction, the upbringing path (ramp) and the renovated roads. Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury proposed to CDA to build a new bridge by breaking the current dilapidated bridge of Dewanhat under the Elevated Expressway project.
Panel Mayor Ghias Uddin and Afroza Kalam, Secretary Khaled Mahmud, Chief Engineer Rafiqul Islam and CDA Chief Engineer Kazi Hassan Bin Shams, Project Director Mahfuzur Rahman were present at the meeting.
The implementing agency believes that the expressway will help cope with the pressure of the vehicle.
It can be reached from Chittagong city in just 20 minutes when it is launched. However, the toll will have to be given at the fixed rate.
Project Director CDA Executive Engineer Mahfuzur Rahman told media that it was decided to open the elevated expressway for traffic in March-April.
The rest of the work can be completed within the stipulated time.
On the 5 km long elevated expressway, 5 ramps have been constructed at various important points in the city. Of these, one at GEC, two in Tigerpas, four in Agrabad, one in Fakirhat, two in Nimtala, two in CEPZ and two ramps in the KEPZ area.
Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) has decided to name the Elevated Expressway by the name of the late Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury.
The project was approved at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) earlier.
The project cost of Tk 3,220 crore 5 lakh 5 thousand was first fixed.
Later, the cost increased to Tk 4,220 crore 5 lakh. In addition, the duration of the project was extended by two more years till June 2021.
