Cruciani begins coaching for Abahani after 16 years

Sports Reporter :
Argentine Diego Andres Cruciani is all set to take charge of Dhaka Abahani Limited.

He was the Head Coach of Abahani Limited during the debut season of the country’s professional football league won by the Sky Blues eventually.

Bidding Lemos farewell, Abahani soon announced the name of the new Head Coach earlier this month.

Cruciani has returned to Abahani after around a 16-year gap, as he earlier served the club from February to May 2007, while Lemos’s stint with Abahani began in December 2018.

The club’s management also brought changes in the team’s coaching staff by appointing former trainer Kazi Nazrul Islam as the Team Manager replacing long-serving Satyajit Das Rupu.

Cruciani landed in Dhaka on Monday morning and began training sessions at the Abahani Club Ground on Tuesday, said Abahani’s New Manager Nazrul Islam.

Abahani Limited have been taking preparation for the curtain raiser Independence Cup Football, which kick-off on Friday.

Cruciani (2005-2006) and Lemos (in October 2021) also served the Bangladesh National Football team as Head Coaches and Interim coaches, respectively.

The 61-year-old Cruciani, who served Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football outfit Saif Sporting Club in 2021-2022 as Coach, also served the Maldives National Football Team as Coach from 2009 to 2011.
