Koko’s Janaza at Baitul Mukarram today

Staff Reporter :The second Namaz-e-Janaza of Arafat Rahman Koko, the younger son of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, will be held today (Tuesday) after Asr prayers on the premises of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque instead of in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan office.BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed in a press release on Monday said that the Janaza venue has been shifted to Baitul Mukarram Mosque considering the convenience of common people. After the Janaza, Koko’s body will be buried at Banani Army Graveyard, he added. In another press release, the BNP said that Koko’s Gayebana Janaza (funeral prayers in absentia) would also be held across the country, except Dhaka city, at 10:30am today instead of Wednesday. Rizvi Ahmed requested all to join the Namaz-e-Janaza and the Gayebana Janaza. Earlier on Sunday, Rizvi Ahmed in a statement announced that Koko’s Namaz-e-Janaza would be held at Nayapaltan, while Gayebana Janaza will be held on Wednesday. Sources said that the venue changed due to Khaleda Zia’s desire, as she was keen to hold the Janaza at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque or Gulshan Azad Mosque. Khaleda Zia opined that Koko was not involved in politics, so his Janaza should not be held in front of party office. Koko’s first Namaz-e-Janaza was held on Sunday at Masjid-e-Negera in Kuala Lumpur, the national mosque of Malaysia. After the Janaza, the body was kept again at the mortuary of Malaya University Hospital. His body will arrive home from Malaysia in the morning. The body will be taken to Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office straight from the airport, said Khaleda Zia’s press secretary Maruf Kamal Khan Sohel. The mortal will be kept before Janaza for party leaders and activists to have the last glimpse of Koko.Meanwhile, BNP started observing a three-day mourning from Monday across the country. Party flags were hoisted atop BNP’s offices, while party leaders and activists wore black badges to mourn for Koko.
