Suspended PD assaults DG DLS

Staff Reporter :
A senior official of the Department of Livestock Services (DLS) physically assaulted the Director General (DG) of the DLS Dr. Emdadul Haque Talukder and its Deputy Director (DD-Admin) Dr. Mahbubul Alam Bhuiyan at the office of the DD while the DG was inspecting the office.

Earlier, project director Dr. Azizul Islam was suspended temporarily on various corruption charges brought against him.

However, allegation of assaulting the two senior officials was raised against Dr. Azizul Islam, a district livestock services office (DLO) and Project Director (PD) of the Strengthening the Veterinary Services to Protect Public Health Project. Dr Azizul was suspended recently for misconduct and breaching the service rules.

Citing the entire incident, DLS DG Dr. Emdadul Haque Talukder on Thursday forwarded a letter to the Fisheries and Livestock Ministry’s Secretary demanding legal actions against the PD Dr. Azizul Islam.

When contacted, Dr. Emdadul Haque Talukder refused to make any comment in the matter.

But, two directors of the department ABM Khaledur Rahman and Dr. Shahinur Alam admitted the incident saying that they haven’t seen but heard about the matter.

According to the written complaint of Emdadul Talukder, the DG was inspecting the official activities at around 1pm on Thursday.

When he was crossing the offices of Director (Admin) Dr. Mohammad Reazul Haque and DD (Admin) Mahbubul Bhuiyan, the suspended PD Dr. Azizul was present at the scene.

He requested the DG to enter the Director administration’s office for talking about the matter.

“Whenever, he entered the director’s office, Dr. Azizul enquired about his suspension and requested him to withdraw the suspension letter and not to forward the letter being issued to remove him from the project director’s office.

He started pressuring him to accept his demand and shouted.

When the DG requested him to not cross the limit, Dr. Azizul assaulted him and DD admin physically,” he said in the letter, adding that when other officials and employees went there, Azizul left the spot.

When contacted, Dr. Azizul Islam, the suspended project director, sent a short message to this correspondent citing that a high official of an intelligence agency is responsible for the entire incident.

“I haven’t assaulted anyone rather I was assaulted by the officials.”

He also rejected the allegations of corruption against him.
