DU Correspondent :
The students from seven colleges affiliated with Dhaka University (DU) blocked Nilkhet intersection of the city again demanding the opportunity to promote in the next year by relaxing the CGPA condition.
Halting traffic, the students blocked the intersection by forming a large circle around 1:30 pm and were shouting slogans in favour of their demands.
The blockade triggered a severe traffic congestion in the area.
Earlier on the 16th of this month, they blocked the Nilkhet intersection to press the demand.
The students claimed that they have contacted several times with the respective authorities and were assured of a solution to the problem.
As the authorities failed to keep to their promise, they are forced to take to the street.
“We have met the coordinator of seven colleges. He gave assurances about 19 times, but did not give any final decision.
Besides, we have also contacted the DU administration several times, but we didn’t get any solution,” Osman Gani, a student of Govt. Titumir College said.
However, the commuters suffered much as no vehicle could pass through the area during the protest.
The students said, “We have been protesting for three months to give promotion opportunities through improvement.
We have been assured, but no decision has been made yet.
Besides, the results have been declared late.
We have already prepared for the next year and completed the incourse and test examination.”
Mentioning that it is not possible to give exams in all the subjects of the previous year, the student said, “So, we want to relax the prescribed CGPA conditions and ask for promotion in the next year through improvement tests up to three subjects.”
The correspondents tried to communicate over the phone with Eden College principal and coordinator of seven college Professor Supriya Bhattacharjee, but she did not responded the calls.
