Anniv of 21 Aug grenade attack observed

The 19th anniversary of the gruesome grenade attack on an anti-terrorism rally of the then opposition Awami League in the capital on August 21 in 2004 was observed on Monday paying tributes to the martyrs under the auspices of Manikganj District Awami League.

On this occasion, an agitation procession was brought out in the town, started from the Awami League District office and ended at the District Lawyers Association building premises after parading the main roads.

A discussion was held after the rally.

District Awami League President also the Chairman of Manikganj District Command of the Freedom Fighters Council Advocate Golam Mohiuddin presided over the function.

General Secretary of District Awami League Public Prosecutor (PP) Freedom Fighter Advocate Abdus Salam, District AL vice pesident Freedom Fighter Gazi Quamrul Huda Selim, Joint Secretary Advocate Badrul Islam Khan Bablu, AFM Sultanul Azam Khan Apel and Kazi Enayet Hossain Tipu and Organizing Secretary Sudeb Saha among others spoke on the occasion.

District and Upazila level Awami League and its front organization leaders and activists were present at the function.

The speakers demanded immediate completion of the trial of the case and ensured the justice.

BSS from Magura reports : Local units of Awami League (AL) and its front organisations Monday paid rich tributes to the martyrs of the heinous August 21 grenade attack in 2004 in Dhaka.

Marking the day, Magura district Awami League (AL) organized a discussion meeting and doa mahfil in memory of the martyrs of August 21 grenade attack.

Member of Parliament of Magura-1 constituency Advocate Saifuzzaman Shikhar addressed the commemoration meeting as the chief guest, held at the freedom fighter Ashaduzzaman Auditorium this morning in the town.

District Awami League President Abdul Fattah presided over the discussion.

Member of Parliament for Magura-2 Constituency Biren Shikder, District Awami League General Secretary Pankaj Kumar Kundu, Former Reserved Women Member of Parliament Kamrul Laila Jolly, District Awami League Vice-presidents Munsi Rezaul Haque, Abu Nasir Bablu, Advocate Syed Shariful Islam, Joint General Secretary Khurshid Haider Tutul, Advocate Shakarul Islam Shakeel, Sadar Upazila Awami League President Ashraful Alam Babul Fakir, Municipal Awami League President Baki Imam, its General Secretary Maqbul Hasan Makul, among others, spoke.

The chief guest said “We will fight to free Bangladesh from the hands of terrorism and we will build ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman”.

Later, a special doa was offered for the eternal peace of the martyrs of 21 August grenade attack.
Baraigram (Natore) Correspondent says: The Grenade Attack Day was observed on Monday at Baraigram in Natore.

On the day, the programme include laying wreaths on portraits of martyrs, observing silence and holding discussion meetings.

Upazila Awami League President Abdul Quddus Miyaji as the chief guest and Bonpara Municipal Mayor KM Zakir Hossain spoke as the chief speaker in the meeting organized at Bonpara market of the upazila under the chairmanship of Jubo League leader Zulfikar Matin.
Among others, district Awami League’s former Education Secretary Principal Abdur Razzak Molla, upazila Awami League’s former Joint Secretary Moazzem Hossain Bablu, Majgaon UP Chairman Abdullah Al Azad Dulal, Ward Councilor Sharifunnesa and others spoke.

On the other hand, Upazila Chairman. Alhaj Dr Md. Siddiqur Rahman Patwari spoke as the chief guest in a separate meeting at Bonpara bypass area under the Chairmanship of veteran
Awami League leader Abdus Sobhan Pramanik.

Gopalpur UP Chairman Freedom Fighter Abu Bakar Siddique, Jonail UP Chairman Abul Kalam Azad, Chandai UP Chairman Shahnaz Parveen, Upazila Awami League Joint Secretary Anwar Hossain Dulal, former Zilla Parishad Member Abul Kalam Zoardar as special guests and others spoke in the meeting.
