This year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations saw a decline in GPA-5 achievements, with 183,578 students obtaining the highest grade.
The overall pass rate for the SSC and equivalent examinations stood at 80.39 per cent, indicating a drop by seven per cent compared to the previous year’s pass rate 87.44 percent.
Last year, a total of 269,602 students achieved the coveted GPA-5 in the SSC examinations, revealing a significant reduction of 86,024 GPA-5 recipients this year.
On the other hand, girls have out-shined the boys both in pass rate and GPA-5 achievements, indicating their dedication to studies.
The results of the SSC and equivalent examinations were published simultaneously at educational institutions and online.
Education Minister Dipu Moni held a press conference at the International Mother Language Institute in Segunbagicha, Dhaka, to provide detailed information about the examination results.
Before this, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina officially inaugurated the programme for the publication of the SSC and equivalent examination results from Ganabhaban. At this time, Education Minister Dipu Moni, State Minister for Education Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury, and the chairmen of education boards were present.
The breakdown of GPA-5 achievers according to the respective education boards is as follows: Under the General Education Board, 159,220 students secured the highest grade, while 6,213 students achieved GPA-5 under the Madrasah Education Board for the Dakhil examination.
Additionally, 18,145 students received GPA-5 under the Technical Education Board for the SSC Vocational examination.
Comparing the combined results of the nine General Education Boards, Madrasah Education Board, and Technical Education Board, the overall pass rate this year is 80.39 per cent, a noticeable decrease compared to last year’s pass rate of 87.44 per cent.
Within the General Education Board, the pass rates in different boards were as follows: Dhaka 90 per cent , Mymensingh 86.07 per cent, Rajshahi 85.88 per cent, Cumilla 91.28 per cent, Jashore 95.03 per cent, Chattogram 87.53 per cent, Barishal 89.61 per cent, Dinajpur 81.14 per cent and Sylhet: 78.82 per cent.
This year, 48 educational institutions throughout the country reported a disheartening outcome, with no students managing to pass their SSC and equivalent examinations. This marks a slight improvement from last year’s figure, as 50 institutions faced the same situation then.
Conversely, 2,354 institutions achieved a perfect pass rate of 100% in this year’s examinations, showing a decline compared to the 2,975 institutions that accomplished the feat last year.
On the other hand, girls have once again emerged as the top performers in this year’s SSC and equivalent examinations, surpassing boys in both pass rate and GPA-5 achievements.
Out of the total examinees, 10,31,647 were girls and 10,09,803 boys. Impressively, 81.88 per cent of the girls successfully passed the exams, whereas 78.87 per cent of the boys managed to do the same.
Moreover, an outstanding 98,614 girls achieved the highest grade, GPA-5, compared to 84,964 boys, creating a significant difference of 13,650 more girls obtaining GPA-5 than their male counterparts.
The exceptional academic success of the girls highlights their dedication and commitment to academic excellence, education board sources said.
According to the results, a total of 20,41,450 students participated in this year’s SSC and equivalent examinations. Among them, there were 10,09,803 boys and 10,31,647 girls.
Out of these examinees, 16,41,140 students successfully passed the exams. Among the successful candidates, 7,96,404 were boys and 8,44,736 were girls.
In recent history, the public examination results were never published on a Friday for being the weekend. This time results were published on a day when the capital city Dhaka underwent some sorts tension centering counter rallies of the ruling Awami League and the main opposition BNP. The city people were wary of potential clashes between the two parties.
Education Minister Mahbubul Hasan Chowdhury Nawfel, Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division Suleman Khan, Secretary of the Technical and Madrasah Education Division Md. Kamal Hossain, the Coordinator of the Inter-Education Board and Chairman of the Dhaka Education Board Professor Tapun Kumar Sarkar, along with other education board chairmen and exam controllers, were present at the press conference.
