Secondary teachers continue sit-in for nationalisation of jobs
Staff Reporter :
The teachers, under the banner of the Bangladesh Teachers’ Association, have been conducting a continuous sit-in program in the capital Dhaka for the nationalsation of secondary education. As a result, the road from Paltan to Press Club has been closed.
The blocking of the busy road by the agitating teachers on Sunday caused a huge traffic jam in the area. Hundreds of teachers were participating in the programme.
Ismail Hossain, a teacher participating in the movement, said, “We will stay here for the whole day today (Sunday). Our program will continue until the demand is met.
Before this, the president of the organisation. Bazlur Rahman told a press conference that MPO teachers get only 25 percent festival allowance, 1 thousand Taka house rent and 500 Taka medical allowance.
However, despite having the same syllabus under the same curriculum, the same academic schedule, and being engaged in the work of preparing question papers and evaluating answer papers, there is a huge disparity between government and private teachers-employees in terms of financial benefits.
Moreover, the pay scale of Heads of Private Educational Institutions is one step below the pay scale of Heads of Government Educational Institutions.
He also said that there is a long-standing dissatisfaction among the headmasters and assistant headmasters as the pay scale of higher scaled senior teachers and the pay scale of assistant headmasters are the same.
Private teachers and employees have to wait for years to get pension benefits and welfare trust money after retirement. As a result, many teachers and employees are dying without treatment before receiving money.
