Khorshed new president, Jahirul secry

The biennial election for the executive committee of the Burichong Press Club in Cumilla for the 2026-2028 term has been held.

Kazi Khorshed Alam (representative of Daily Naya Diganta) was elected President, Jahirul Haque Babu (MoJo reporter for Somoy Television) was elected General Secretary, and Md. Zakir Hossain (representative of Daily Ruposhi Bangla) was elected Organising Secretary.

Voting took place on Monday at the Burichong Press Club auditorium. Mohammad Shariful Islam, former President of the Comilla Bar Association, served as the Chief Election Commissioner for the election.

The election commissioners were Imtiaz Ahmed Jitu, General Secretary of the Comilla Press Club, and Mohammad Tajul Islam, an assistant teacher at Burichong Ananda Pilot Government High School.

Burichong Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Tanvir Hossain, Burichong Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Lutfur Rahman, and The New Nation Assignment Editor and National Press Club member Mohammad Abdul Wadud-along with leaders from various political, social, and cultural organizations-visited the polling centers and congratulated the winners. Leaders of the Comilla District Press Club and journalists from various print and electronic media outlets were also present on the occasion.

Twenty-four candidates contested for 19 posts in the election. Gazi Mohammad Jahangir Alam Jabir and Sohrab Sumon (representatives of Daily Amar Sangbad) were elected as vice-presidents; Maruf Ahmed Kalpa (representative of Daily Pratidiner Sangbad) was elected as assistant general secretary; and Md. Abdullah (representative of Daily Khola Kagoj) was elected as assistant organizing secretary.

Md. Fayez Ahmed (representative of Dainik Mukto Khobor) has been elected as Finance Secretary; Md. Shafi (representative of Dainik Bangladesh Samachar) as Office Secretary; Muhammad Rakibul Hasan Roni as Publicity and Publication Secretary; Rezaul Karim Raju (representative of Dainik Cumillar Alo) as Library Secretary; Al Mamun Tutu (representative of Dainik Pratidiner Sangbad) as Science and Information Technology Secretary; and Mohammad Jamal Uddin Dulal (representative of Dainik Jaijaydin) as Literature, Culture, and Sports Secretary.

Md. Moslim Uddin (representative of Daily Manabzamin), Abdul Momen (representative of Daily Bhorer Kagoj), Md. Gias Uddin (representative of Mainamati Online TV), Mohammad Tajul Islam (representative of Daily Sangram), Alauddin Ahmed (representative of The Daily Observer), and Md. Mohiuddin (representative of Daily Bartaman Bangla) have been elected as executive members.
