Office of the Registrar General of Birth and Death Registration on Sunday placed a report in the High Court saying that no birth and death registration data went missing from their server.
The report also claimed that the news reported in different media about the missing of Birth and Death Registration data from the server is not true. Some of the data is not available on the server as many of the registrars were not able to input the handwritten registration data into the online system.
The report signed by Samiul Islam Rahad, an Assistant Registrar General of the Birth and Death Registration Office, was submitted to the High Court bench of Justice J B M Hassan and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil.
Deputy Attorney General Kazi Mynul Hasan placed the report on behalf of the Birth and Death Registration Office.
Supreme Court lawyer Tanveer Ahmed who filed the writ petition said, “Office of the Registrar General of Birth and Death Registration has submitted a report complying with the earlier order of the court. However, the report was incomplete. That is why the HC asked the authorities to submit a complete report on August 10.”
Tanveer said that the petition was filed as various media reported that birth registration data of several crores of citizens went missing on the central server. The missing data on the server forced crores of citizens to register their date of birth afresh.
According to the writ petition, the citizens had been suffering a lot to get their birth registered afresh as their previously registered data did not match in the new server because of missing of previous data.
Following the petition, the High Court on May 29 last year asked the government to initiate a probe into the alleged missing birth and death registration data on the central server. The court directed the Local Government Division Secretary and the Registrar General to submit the probe report within one month.
Following the HC order, a four-member convening committee was formed headed by a Deputy Registrar General (Administration) on October 4 last year. Based on the observations and opinions of this committee, the report was submitted to the HC.
