Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday urged students to prepare themselves for future responsibilities in national development, stressing the importance of contributing to the welfare of the country and the broader process of nation-building.
According to a press release issued on Monday by the PM’s Press Wing, he made the remarks while speaking informally with a group of students who had arrived to observe the budget session of Parliament.
The interaction took place during the lunch break of the budget session, at a time when the Prime Minister was leaving his office at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban to attend a programme at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre.
His wife Dr Zubaida Rahman was also present during the brief exchange.
A total of 45 students from four educational institutions in Madaripur visited Parliament on Monday to observe the budget session. The students were waiting in front of the Prime Minister’s Office inside the Parliament Complex when Tarique Rahman stopped to speak with them.
During the interaction, the Prime Minister encouraged them to concentrate not only on academic studies but also on sports, cultural activities and other creative pursuits.
He noted that such engagement would help them develop their talents and prepare for future national service, stating: “Students should get ready to contribute to country’s progress.”
The visiting students expressed their excitement over the meeting and thanked the Prime Minister for what they described as a memorable experience.
The visit was organised by Madaripur-2 MP Md Jahandar Ali Mia, who facilitated the participation of students from four institutions under his constituency. These included United Islamia Government High School, Donovan Government Girls’ High School, Rajoir Girls’ High School, and Takerhat Popular High School and College.
Alongside observing the budget session, the students also toured various areas of the Parliament Complex and were introduced to the history, architecture and functions of the Jatiya Sangsad.
