Stocks open week on positive note

The stock market opened higher on Sunday as investors continued their chase for rumour-based stocks in anticipation of quick gains.
Allure of potential quick gains prompted a section of investors to seize opportunities in specific stocks that recently broke out from the floor price, market analysts said.
The market movement was led by particular small-cap and junk stocks as they sought to take positions in the quick rallies in anticipation of quick gains.
Small-cap stocks such as Fu-Wang Food, Khan Brothers PP Woven Bag Industries and Fu-Ceramic are dominating the trading board while large-cap stocks remained unmoved.
Following the previous day’s modest fall, the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) went up 8.54 points to stand at 6,343, after the first hour of trading at 11:00am.
The DS30 Index, which consists of blue-chip companies, however, saw a fractional loss of 0.18 point to 2,191 and the DSES Index, which represents Shariah-based companies, gained 3.50 points to 1,378 till then.
Trading activities also rose to Tk 2.49 billion after the first hour of trading.
Of the issues traded till then, 103 advanced, 75 declined and 143 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
The port city bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) also saw a positive note with CSE All Share Price Index- CASPI-gaining 36 points to stand at 18,757, also at 11:00am.
Of the issues traded till then, 37 advanced, 29 declined and 43 remained unchanged with Tk 42 million in turnover.
