Eid-holiday road crashes claim 299 lives

At least 299 people were killed and 544 others injured in several road crashes across the country during Eid-ul-Azha holidays. Among them, 94 people were killed in motorcycle accidents.
Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samiti divulged the figure at a press conference at Bangladesh Photo Journalists Association in the capital on Saturday morning.
Md Mozammel Haque Chowdhury, Secretary General of the organization, said like previous years, their road accident monitoring cell has made a report.
According to the report, 277 road accidents took place across the country in the last 15 days from June 22 to July 6.
During the period, at least 25 people were killed and 10 others injured
in 25 railway accidents. Besides, 16 people were also killed and 15 others injured in 10 waterways accidents, Mozammel added.
Jatri Kalyan Samiti Secretary General Mozammel Haque Chowdhury also said that due to the good condition of some roads across the country, the number of road accidents and deaths on these routes has decreased in addition to the reduction of suffering during the last Eid-ul-Azha.
In the press conference, vice-president of the organization Tawhidul Haque Liton, joint secretary general Monirul Haque, publicity secretary Mahmudul Hasan Russell, prominent social worker Mohammad Mohsin and others were also present.
