We can have our own visa policy too: AL
Staff Reporter :
Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said now it remains to be seen what the US visa policy does following Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s announcement of resisting elections in the country.
“Keep waiting, we can also pursue visa policy,” he asserted.
“We don’t care about the visa policy and wait, we can also pursue issue visa policy too. The US visa policy stipulates that the policy will be applied to those who obstruct the free and fair elections.
Now, we want to see whether this policy is blind-deaf or pragmatic,” the minister made the remarks in response to questions from journalistsafter inspecting four and a half kilometers construction work on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project at Tongi in Gazipur on Saturday afternoon.
In response to another question, the AL General Secretary said, “If you talk about corruption and misrule, you have to mention the name of BNP. Those who are guilty of corruption and misrule how they talkso much?”
Obaidul Quader said the BNP in the last 14 years has been saying that the AL-led government cannot stay and it has to leave.
“The BNP could not be able to wage any visible movement for the release of their leader in the last 14 years. Now they are dreaming of toppling the government through movement,” he added.
On the trial of murdered journalist Golam Rabbani in Jamalpur, Quader said, “The trial will not be affected because of party identity of the perpetrators. Legal action will be taken against the persons responsible for the murder and no party action is required if legal action is taken.”
He further said that the 4.5 kilometer elevated section of BRT will be opened from the city’s Uttara House Building to Cherag Ali College Gate in Tongi before the holy Eid-ul-Azha.
A total of 91 percent of the BRT project has been completed; he said adding that the 95 percent work on the elevated part from House Building to Cheragh Ali College Gate is completed.
The entire project work will be completed by next September-October, he added.
The Bridges Minister also said that 100 more bridges will be inaugurated across the country soon.
