Jamalpur journo murder: Nadeem was hit by chairman’s son with brick, says eyewitness

Six people were detained in connection to the alleged murder of Jamalpur district correspondent of Banglanews24.com Golam Rabbani Nadeem.
Bakshiganj police station officer in charge Mohammad Sohel Rana confirmed matter, reports Banglanews.
On Thursday (June 15), at around 8 pm Jamalpur police chief ASP Suman Kanti Das disclosed the identities of the four arrested persons to Banglanews.
Off the six, four names were disclosed are – Golam Kibria Sumon, Md. Tofazzal, Aynal Haque and Md. Kofil Uddin.
Journalist Nadeem, who was allegedly attacked by miscreants on June 14, succumbed to his injuries at a Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) around 3pm on June 15.
On information, some 10-12 people attacked Nadim in Bakshiganj Bazar area while he along with his colleague Al Mujahid Babu was returning home by a motorcycle around 10:00pm on June 14.
The miscreants with local arms attacked Nadeem randomly and took him to a dark lane dragging. When Mujahid tried to stop even he was assaulted.
Later, Mujahid with the help of the locals rushed journalist Nadeem to a nearby hospital, later, he was referred to MMCH for better treatment.
He said “We along with Nadeem covered news against Sadhupara Union Chairman Mahmud Alam Babu. After the news chairman was agitated and filed a case under Digital Security Act (DSA) against us.”
However, a Mymensingh cyber tribunal dismissed the case, said Mujahid describing the incident.
Meanwhile, the 65-year-old Aleya Begum was sobbing at her house, grieving for her son Golam Rabbani who was killed in an attack on Wednesday night. Neighbours tried to pacify her, but in vain.
Aleya Begum burst into tears repeatedly and appealed to the people for justice for the murder of her son, who she termed a ‘fearless journalist’.
This was seen on a visit to Kacharipara village of Bakshiganj in Jamalpur on Friday at 9:00 am.
Aleya Begum cried, “My son was a fearless journalist in Bakshiganj. There are no other fearless journalists here like my son.”
She claimed the chairman of Sadhurpara union parishad (UP) of Bakshiganj, Mahmudul Alam alias Babu, killed his son for writing against him in the newspaper. “I want Babu to be hanged. I want capital punishment for the murder of my son. You (people) all will ensure justice of the murder. [I] want justice from the people,” she cried.
Meanwhile, Al Mujahid, a colleague and eyewitness to the murder of journalist Golam Rabbani Nadim in Bakshiganj Upazila of Jamalpur, has provided a detailed account of the assault on him.
According to Mujahid, on the night of the incident, he and Nadim were returning home, crossing the Pathati intersection of the upazila around 10:30 pm last Wednesday. They were also captured on separate motorcycles in the CCTV footage, reports Prothom Alo.
Suddenly, a group of miscreants forcefully dragged Nadim off his moving motorcycle and took him to an area outside the reach of the CCTV cameras, where they mercilessly punched him.
