BD targets five lakh workers employment in Malaysia this year

Bangladesh has targeted to export five lakh of its workers to Malaysia this year.

Bangladeshi high commission to Malaysia said this on Sunday.

As per the fixed target, the high commission is passing very times to verified demand documents of the workers.

Bangladeshi high commission in Kuala Lumpur, sources said that the Malaysian government has approved four lakh 27 thousand and 759 workers working visas so far this year.

The high commission is now verifying those demands.

The high commission has verified three lakh, 57 thousand and 328 workers demand letters till June 2, officials from the high commission said.

“We are working speedily with transparency and honesty to attach the demand letters for Bangladeshi workers,” Md. Golam Sarwar, Bangladeshi High Commissioner, Kuala Lumpur, told journalists.

Meanwhile, Nazmus Saadat Selim, the Labour Minister of the high commission said on Sunday, “Earlier, we found allegations that some companies recruited Bangladeshi workers but failed to give them job. Those migrants were sitting idle without any job months after months.”

“Then we have contacted with those companies and arranged their jobs. Now they are working regularly,” he said.

After the incident, the official said that the high commission is now regularly verifying the companies capabilities of giving job and accommodations to the migrant workers.

They also are inspecting the residential arrangements of those companies which are gave demand letters for recruiting Bangladeshi workers.

“If we found the financial capabilities are not sufficient in any company, we do not attach their demand letters,” the official said.
Similarly, they do not attach the documents if found residential arrangements are not healthier and hygienic, they said.

In such cases, they contact and emphasise those companies for further improvement of the matters before recruiting the workers, officials said.

Meanwhile, Imran Ahmed, the Expatriate Welfare and Employment Overseas Minister, have visited Malaysia since Friday to Sunday.
The minister visited and monitored the verification work of the high commission.

Imran Ahmed on Friday called on Malaysian Home Affairs Minister Saifuddin Nasution Islmail and discussed about expanding the country’s labour market for Bangladeshi migrants.

The Expatriates Welfare Minister also called on Malaysian Human Resources Minister V Sibkumar on the very same day.

The two ministers discussed and agreed to create opportunities for recruiting more Bangladeshi workers in various sectors in Malaysia, including housemaid and guards.
