‘Media coverage on missing– a conspiracy’

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ali Hossain Fakir has described the widespread media coverage of missing children cases as a conspiracy.

He made the remarks on Saturday morning while attending a tree-planting and cleanliness programme at Rajarbagh Police Lines School.

“Cases of child disappearance existed in the past as well, but the current widespread media coverage of the issue is a conspiracy,” the IGP said.

He said 87 percent of the children reported missing have already been located.

The police chief further claimed that less than one percent of Bangladesh Police officers are dishonest. “Some of them are conspiring against the government. They have been identified,” he said.

He also alleged that some journalists and content creators are spreading fabricated and baseless information against the government.

Earlier, while attending a tree-planting programme at Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, the IGP said many criminals had been brought under the law multiple times through drives against drugs and snatching.

“However, due to loopholes in the law, drug dealers and snatchers cannot be kept in prison for long,” he said.
