Make Bank Company (Amendment) Act public: TIB

Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has urged for the disclosure of the draft Bank Company (Amendment) Act, 2023 to the public to ensure transparency regarding the long-standing demand for the reform of the banking sector.
The organisation, in a press release issued on Thursday, stated that despite the Cabinet Committee’s approval and media announcement on March 28, the amendment law has not been made public yet.
As a result, concerns have been raised regarding whether the public’s interests have adequately been safeguarded by addressing the much-debated challenges in the sector. TIB Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman said, “Almost a month ago, when the amendment law was approved in the Cabinet Committee, we had hoped that, in accordance with the current government’s practice, it would be published for the opinions and recommendations of relevant stakeholders.
