Fake additional SP arrested in capital

Staff Reporter :
Police have arrested a man for impersonating himself as an additional superintendent of police (SP).
The accused was arrested from the capital’s Ittefaq crossing (R.K Mission Road, Tikatuli) on Wednesday morning by an on-duty traffic police team attached to Wari Division.
The arrestee was identified as Md Sanaullah Sarkar (47), hailing from Tulagaon village of Debidwar upazila in Cumilla district.
“On the 29th March, 2023 at about 9.00 am, I and several traffic police men were on duty at the Ittefaq crossing. As part of our duty, we had to stop cars and bikes to check their documents in a bid to enforce traffic rules. At one stage of my duty, I intercepted a biker who was driving without a helmet. When he stopped, I told him driving a bike without a helmet is illegal. In reply, he said, I know it … let me go… I have an urgent work in Cumilla. As I was rigid to let him go without any legal action, the men suddenly impersonate himself as an additional SP.
His attitude arose the suspicion of the on duty traffic policemen and had to probe further into his particulars when asked of his identity, he could not give a satisfactory account of himself as a police officer. Later, I talked to my bosses who advised me to arrest the suspect and handover him to the nearby police station,” Traffic Sergeant Asadullah Al Galib told The New Nation yesterday.
Md. Mostazirur Rahman, officer-in-charge, Wari Police Station, confirmed the arrest, saying that the arrestee was cheating people in various ways claiming himself as an additional SP.
He said a case was filed with Wari Police Station in this connection.
