BTRC seeks AI action against illegal betting on Google

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Chairman Maj Gen Md Emdad ul Bari (Retd) has urged Google to take stronger measures to prevent criminals from using its platforms to promote betting, gambling and other illegal financial activities.

He also called for effective artificial intelligence (AI)-based technical measures to automatically detect and remove such content immediately after it is published.

The BTRC chairman made the call on Sunday when Google South Asia Policy Head Kyle Gardner met him at the BTRC headquarters in Agargaon, according to a BTRC press release.

The meeting discussed the expansion of Google’s services in Bangladesh, introduction of a payment system, infrastructure development and closer communication between Google and the regulator.
