Staff Reporter :
Collaboration and dedication are the keys to achieving success in promoting safe internet use and digital learning for children, speakers said.
They came up with the remark while speaking at the closing ceremony “Let’s Read Together” organised by the Asia Foundation and JAAGO Foundation at a city hotel on Thursday to promote safe internet use, productive screen time, and digital education for children.
The project was implemented in Rajshahi, Khulna, Chattogram, Cumilla, and Barishal districts to raise awareness about Let’s Read, (a free digital library for children), to over 2500 students and their parents.
The project not only promoted safe internet use and productive screen time but also helped to improve the reading competency of students through a storytelling approach. This is a multi-activity platform where users not only get opportunity to read books, but they can translate, illustrate and create books.
The project’s successful closing workshop was attended by more than 70 participants, including youth volunteers who directly implemented the project, representatives from The Asia Foundation and JAAGO Foundation, and various development organisations, including the embassies.
During the event, participants shared the lessons learned throughout the implementation of the project and highlighted key activities, success stories. The workshop ended with a panel discussion and Q&A session that focused on how to create a productive screen time, as well as potential sustainability strategies.
Korvi Rakshand, Founder of JAAGO Foundation said, “Collaboration and dedication are the keys to achieving success in promoting safe internet use and digital learning for children. The Let’s Read Together project is a great example of what can be achieved when organisations and individuals work together towards a common goal.”
Kazi Faisal Bin Siraj, the Country Representative for The Asia Foundation’s Bangladesh office highlighted the need for the project, saying, “Many children in developing Asia do not have access to colorful, engaging storybooks that inspire a love of reading and learning. Our Let’s Read platform provides dynamic access so kids can read books in ways that fits their learning needs.”
“The Let’s Read Together is a special initiative that we partnered with a phenomenal organisation – JAAGO Foundation to create community-based reading programmes and successful campaigns on safe internet use and productive screen time among children,” he added.
